St Bees, a village in the Copeland district of Cumbria, makes for an idyllic getaway all year round. Despite being quite cold in the winter, due to its northern location, it's a beautiful little part of England with a small population of fewer than 2000 people. This adds to the charm of the place as it's somewhere that should be enjoyed for its simple qualities and certainly isn't the place for a hell-raising weekend. One of many facts about St Bees that many prospective visitors might like to know is that it is the most western point of England which is home to the St Bees lighthouse. It is also a great place for hiking or walking as it is also home to the deservedly famous 'Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk' and is the only Heritage Coastline in Cumbria and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are many things of interest to see on a Mediterranean cruise that also takes in many UNESCO World Heritage spots as well.
Regardless of what the weather is like here in the UK, it's always going to be infinitely better on the Mediterranean which makes any time of the year a good time to look at venturing a bit farther afield. Regardless of age, there is certainly something for everyone on board as these state of the art ships are far more than boats and offer a wonderful selection of activities and different cuisines to ensure that all guests have the time of their lives. Independence of the Seas is one the better known cruise liners that operates in the Mediterranean and other parts of the world like in and around Spain and the Canary Islands. Canary cruises are usually just under two weeks long which is a perfect amount of time to take in the sun and the sights that this part of the world is famous for. Ports of call that will no doubt be of interest to potential passengers are Vigo and La Coruna in Spain, Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal and of course the famous Canary Islands on which passengers on shore leave will experience the delights of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The ships or liners that take passengers to these magical parts of the world are some of the most luxurious in the world and passengers who have spent some time aboard one of these amazing vessels usually find themselves coming back time after time. St Bees is similar to a great cruise in that people who have experienced its charm usually find themselves back up here again before too long as once they have had a taste of northern English hospitality they soon want to experience it all over again. For those that are interested in history, although nothing remains of the Roman occupation, evidence of Mesolithic and Bronze Age habitation has been found in the area and there is also a priory and many gorgeous churches to be seen making it a sightseers paradise.
